The Area

Grandmont itself is a small Hamlet near Saint Sylvestre, in the Monts D`Ambazac.

Located a short distance away is the medieval town of Ambazac.The town has a population of 5000 and is visited by the tour de france each year. Ambazac itself is packed with things to do, there is a very good restaurant as well as a number of bars and plenty of shops, there are two large supermarkets. In the mornings you can smell the freshly baked bread coming from the towns many bakeries.

The town revolves around its charming 13th Century church, inside you will find two of the regions most beautiful and precious relics, if its history you are looking for, then a little nearer to us is one of Frances most important medieval site, the Abbey of Grandmont.

There is a large lesuire centre, a swimming lake with pedalos and water sports, tennis and squash courts, two riding schools all nearby and the popular lac de Jonas, which has its own beach and is the most popular place to dip.

A little further afield is Limoges, the capital city of the Limousin, A stunning city full of quaint streets and pavement cafes. Imagine Paris but without the crowds and you have Limoges, Spectacular buildings, great shopping. Limoges is also renowned for its great night life, Pavement cafes open til late and then are many bars, shows and restaurants. It also famously known for its arts and crafts and of course its famous porcelain factories.

The railway station and its fountained gardens is a must see place.

This stunningly beautiful region of still lakes, fast flowing streams, gentle rolling valleys, ravines and forested mountains has been one of the best kept secrets in France. Away from the tourist crowds of the Dordogne and similar regions of France, the Limousin has maintained its own brand of quality time and quality of life.
